Connor McManamon, who earned the Bears' only first place in the 22-school meet, stands atop the 60-meter hurdles podium.

White Bear Lake boys track had an encouraging season opener, placing third among 22 teams in a Minnesota State-Mankato indoor meet Saturday.

“Third place finish, losing to first place by only six points, great  first meet of season,” said coach Tom Paulson, adding that the overnight trip to Mankato was an excellent team experience.

The top five were Stillwater 73, River Falls (WI) 69, the Bears 67, Mankato West 44 and Forest Lake 40.

Connor McManamon, Bear junior, won the 60-meter hurdles (8.56).

Other top-five finishes for the Bears were Mike Rohlinger, third in the 1600 (4:30.65); Fidel Paramo, third in long jump (20-4 1/4); the 4x400 relay (Ben Misgen, Aaron Wahl, McManamon, Rohlinger), third (3:38.48).

Ben Vanderbosch placed fourth in the 3200 (9:54.43), Kevin Boeing fifth in triple jump (39-9), and Gerritt Christenson took sixth in both 60 meter hurdles (9.39) and triple jump (39-8 1/4)
