Jake Paulson, named MVP of the White Bear Lake golf team, made a good showing at the state tournament to cap off his junior year.

Paulson tied for 25th place in Class AAA among 88 qualifiers with 73-78-151 on June 12-13 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids. His freshman teammate Joe Frattalone also reached state, where he shot 84-83-167 for 81st place.

Paulson led the the Bears with a 78.13 stroke average, 26 birdies, five eagles, and hitting greens in regulation (45.9 percent).

Frattalone got two team awards: top rookie and most improved. He was honorable mention to all-conference along with junior Aaron Schmid. The team’s Ben Hogan Award went to senior Gabe Rensensink.

Grant Hofeld, a sophomore, led the Bears in both putting (31 per nine holes) and hitting fairways (42.8 percent).
