White Bear Lake erupted with four touchdowns in the second quarter on the way to a 37-21 victory over the Stillwater Ponies on Friday evening in Stillwater.
Cooper Anderson hit 12 of 16 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Dominic Smith snagged eight of them for 177 yards and both TDs.
The Bears (3-1) trailed 7-6 at the first stop, but led 34-13 after halftime. The big second quarter included two touchdowns each by Smith on passes of 40 and 58 yards, and by Zach Griebel on runs of 13 and 15 yards.
Griebel gained 72 yards in 19 carries as the Bears totaled 156 ground yards. Andrew Kleist had the first TD on a one-yard plunge. Nick Blanding kicked four of five extra points and a 27-yard field goal. Kevin Boeing caught two passes for 50 yards. Brice Peters rushed 14 times for 48 yards.
Sophomore defensive back Spencer Oxton intercepted two passes, giving him four “picks” for the season. Griebel also made one.
Stillwater (1-3) got a pair of touchdown passes from Luke Cullen to Cooper Yeary of five and 25 yards. Cullen also had a 21-yard TD run to close the scoring. However, the Bears held Cullen to 14 completions in 39 attempts for 132 yards and intercepted him three times. He rushed for 126 yards in 17 carries.
The Bears will host Roseville Area (2-2) next Friday.
