Mahtomedi squeezed out a double-overtime win over North St. Paul 74-73 — after leading 58-42 — on Tuesday evening at home. “Very exciting finish,” coach Keith Newman said, Will Underwood scored 31 points and sealed the win with his sixth steal of the game late in the second OT. He also had five rebounds and six assists. Owen Carlson logged 25 points including clutch baskets three times and snagged 15 rebounds for the Zephyrs (7-1). Murl Smith tallied 30 points for North (2-3). D’Marion Suttles added 12 and Kendarius Daily 10. North had a 22-3 run late in the game to push ahead 62-60 and 64-61. Carlson tied with with a 3-pointer with a minute left. North went for one shot and the Zephyrs made the stop. Carlson hit another 3-pointer for a 67-66 lead in the first OT. North regained a 69-67 led, but missed a layup and two free shots with :08 left. Kyle Oswald scrapped for the rebound and flipped the ball to Carlson, who nailed a free throw line jumper at the buzzer to force another OT. Carlson sank three free shots with 1:20 left in the second OT for a 74-71 lead. North got back within one but Underwood’s steal erased their final chance.
