Art Shanty Projects re-open

After moving the art shanties off the ice, a group of artists started a spontaneous dance party Saturday, Feb. 20. The shanties have relocated to White Bear Lake County Park beach for the festival's last weekend. Open to the public Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit artshantyprojects.org.

Good news for visitors to the Art Shanty Projects on White Bear Lake. The free event will re-open for its final weekend Feb. 27-28. Like many Minnesotans in February, the projects headed to the beach, read a press release from Executive Director Dawn Bentley.

"Last week's warm-up threw a climate curve ball to the on-ice program when thickness of the ice supporting 20 artist installations deteriorated more than 30 percent from the program's start date two weeks prior," she said. "With visitor numbers anticipated to be more than 3,000, organizers informed artists that the festival would be shut down and structures should be removed."

They weren't moved far, however. The shanties relocated to White Bear Lake County Park beach for the festival's last weekend. Open to the public Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit artshantyprojects.org.
