Go Johnny Go Records in White Bear Lake has changed its name. Owner John Kass wanted to avoid confusion when he opened a new retail store in Maplewood Mall, so he changed the downtown location to White Bear Lake Records. Three of his best friends are managing the vinyl store: Chris Valenty, Tom Novak and Drew Miller. “The head honcho is still at Maplewood Mall,” Kass said. Go Johnny Go is located on the second level of the mall by the food court. The space was more suitable to display his more than 200 pieces of stereo gear, Kass figured, so he went with the move about three months ago. He also repairs vintage stereo equipment at the mall location. Record sales are going great and, according to the vinyl afficionado, their popularity is surging, with most of his current business through mail order. Records at the mall store sell for $1 to $3. Next up, Kass maintains, will be a CD revival. “Give it another five years.”
