In preparation for Valentine's Day on Friday, Feb. 14, we rounded up gift selections from area businesses. Here are our recommendations for ways to say “I love you” locally.

Sweet Life Lane

Located in the heart of downtown White Bear Lake, Sweet Life Lane is run by husband and wife team Matt and Christi Schreyer. One section boasts all homemade and handcrafted items, while another is stocked with retro treats, for those looking for a tasty throwback. From craft chocolates to popcorn to ice cream, the store has plenty of both sweet and savory treats for your loved ones (or for you).

St. Croix Chocolate Company

Maybe chocolate on Valentine's Day is a bit of a cliché—but aren't all clichés based in truth? With the St. Croix Valley being home to a world-renowned chocolate company, celebrating Valentine's Day locally is made all the sweeter. St. Croix Chocolate Company, based in Marine on St. Croix, recently took the gold for Best Overall Truffle Artistry at the 6th annual Chocolate Truffle Artistry Awards, sponsored by the International Chocolate Salon Awards. The winning entry featured two hand-painted koi fish, filled with yuzu ganache and honey ganache respectively, but the Marine on St. Croix store has plenty of festive options for Valentine's Day—even edible heart-shaped boxes.

Candyland

The iconic old-fashioned candy shop has just about every sweet treat you could imagine, including fill-your-own custom boxes that you can pack with your loved one's favorites. From cherry and raspberry hearts, to chocolate roses, to cinnamon lips, there are plenty of fun and festive Valentine's Day specials, too. The store also offers customizable boxes of candy or popcorn.

Daniela's Chocolates

Located in a quaint cottage along Hwy. 61 and nestled right in the heart of downtown Forest Lake, Daniela's Chocolates is picture-perfect all year long but seems even more magical during the winter. The hot chocolate, made like they do in the Italian Alps, is a customer favorite, and owner Daniela Meneghetti's specialty, the Fantasia Chocolate Box, includes a large selection of mouthwatering sweets and treats and is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Lakes Floral, Gift and Garden

What would Valentine's Day be without flowers? Whether you're looking to surprise a loved one with the traditional dozen red roses or want to opt for a more unique bouquet, Lakes Floral, Gift and Garden has you covered. Their beautiful and fragrant floral arrangements will surely put a smile on your Valentine's face this year.

Saint Croix Vineyards

Feb. 14 marks both Valentine's Day and opening weekend for Stillwater's Saint Croix Vineyards. The winery has a series of specials for the big day, like free tastings of their custom-made raspberry infusion chocolate fudge sauce. It is also offering two wine tastings, which come complete with the raspberry infusion truffles and a bottle of the fudge sauce to take home, for $25. The specials are only available to adults ages 21 or older, so make it a date night and leave the kids at home.
