The Centennial Cougars advanced to the Section 5AA girls hockey finals with a 2-1 win over Rogers in the semifinals on Tuesday evening. 

Scoring for the Cougars were Maija Almich (assists by Sydni Griefenhagen and Allison Pitlick) and Madeline Harthorn (assist by Pitlick). Mackenna Stoterau in goal stopped 22 of 23 shots

The No. 2 seeded Cougars, 13-12-2 overall and 8-1 in their last nine games, will face top-seeded Maple Grove (18-7-1) for a state tournament berth on Friday, 7 p.m., at Roseville Ice Arena.

“Our recent success has been the result of stout goaltending, a better transition game and scoring throughout the line up,” coach David Cole said. Maple Grove will be a tough test. They are very solid.  We need a good start and to defend in layers.”

Maple Grove beat the Cougars 3-0 and 3-2 in conference play.
