Centennial pulled out a 3-2, nine-inning win over Irondale on Tuesday in the first round of Section 5AAAA playoffs, then lost to Mounds View 7-1 on Wednesday, both at Champlin Park.

Centennial (13-9) now faces Osseo (11-10) on Friday, 2 p.m., at CHS Field in St. Paul.

Against Irondale, Jake Ehleringer knocked in the winning run in the ninth with a single. Scoring was Jack Ewings, who got aboard on an error.

Anthony Phillips pitched the first five innings (four hits, one run) and Andrew Mathies threw the last five (two hits, one run), picking up the win. Combined they had just one walk and one strikeout, both by Mathies, who also hit two batters.

Nate Foley, Irondale’s pitcher, tied the game with a solo home run in the seventh.

Casey Trapp was 3-for-4, Owen Campbell 2-for-5 with a double and RBI, Dalton McNamara 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Ehleringer 2-for-6 for the Cougars.

Against Mounds View, Trapp took the loss, giving up seven runs (five earned) in four innings. The Cougars made three double plays behind Trapp and Gabriel Koening, who had two scoreless innings. The Cougars had just four hits, including an RBI single by Ewing, against John Solfest, who got the win with six strong innings.
