Larry Martini, Director of Business Services for Forest Lake Area Schools was recently honored as School Business Official of the Year by the Minnesota Association of School Business Officials (MASBO).

This award recognizes the outstanding practices and new ideas of school business officials from around the state and honors current accomplishments and contributions of MASBO members.

Martini has been in his role with the school district since 2001, ensuring a track record of balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility. Since 2015, he has been leading the Reshaping Opportunities for Success project that was launched after a successful bond referendum. When the project wraps up in 2020, every school site in the district will have seen updates for safety, efficiency and modern learning. To date, approximately 85% of the overall project has been completed, with each step of the process finishing on time and on budget.

Superintendent Steve Massey described Martini as, “innovative, demanding, conservative and passionate about student learning. He is a master at facilitating complex plans into action.”

Martini oversees the district’s accounting and finance, food service, self-operated transportation services, and buildings and grounds operations. He also oversees the district’s medical and health insurance programs. Under his leadership, the district’s self-insurance program has not had a rate increase in six years.
