Chris Stolte of Lino Lakes sent us this fabulous picture taken at Camp Muir base camp, elevation 10,000 feet, on Mount Rainier in Washington State. Chris was there in early May with 13 other members of the Iowa State University Mountaineering and Climbing Club. The success rate for climbers attempting to scale Rainier (elevation 14,411 feet) in May is about 35 percent: for the year, it’s 50 percent, Chris said. “The newspaper made it to the summit but due to 45 mph winds and subzero temperatures, I was not able to pull it out as it would have been mutilated,” he wrote. — Submitted
