Pinpoint passing, three takeaways by the defense and a solid ground game carried Mahtomedi to its third straight win, 39-12 over Hill-Murray, at home Friday evening.
Jake Arlandson completed 13 of 16 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns. The Zephyrs have nine TD passes and no interceptions for the season.
Erik Bjork opened the scoring on a pass from Arlandson from 22 yards out. The senior fullback carried eight times for 91 yards and had a six-yard touchdown.
The other TD pass went to J’vonne Hadley from eight yards. The Zephyrs also scored on a safety. Kyle Oswald kicked a 21-yard field goal and three conversions. Hunter Hall closed the scoring with one-yard dive.
Tyler Tangwall caught six passes for 72 yards, Hadley three for 41, Bjork two for 28 and Ben Hogan two for 17. Nick Weisner had a 45-yard run and totaled 54 on six carries.
Sam Bell and David Blasena intercepted passes and Dean Trowbridge recovered a fumble while the Zephyrs held the winless Pioneers (0-3) to 49 net yards from scrimmage.
Mahtomedi is 3-0 against three teams with a 1-8 combined record. The Zephyrs will host another 3-0 team, St. Thomas Academy, on Friday.
