WHITE BEAR LAKE — Of the 169 Army soldiers in Louis Dziengel’s company, only 17 survived the World War II battles, capture and imprisonment. A recipient of the Purple Heart, the 97 year old is the last of the 17 still living.
Dziengel, of White Bear Lake, served two years overseas during World War II — eight months fighting on the front lines and 15 months as a prisoner of war.
