WHITE BEAR LAKE — Few would identify the large tin building along Highway 61 as a boxing club. There's no fancy sign. No flashy banner.

But step inside and the crack of heavy punching bags, the whir of speed bags and the thud of pounding gloves hits you like an uppercut. You know you've entered the world of boxing.

I started my amateur boxing career in 1991, when i was 19 years young. By the time i reached 21, I became White Bear Lakes 1st. Upper Midwest Heavyweight Golden Glove Champion boxing champion. I owe a heck of a lot to Larry Goodman, Don Weller, and Ken Carlson, to name a few. They not only taught me the "sweet science", but how also to deal with the tough hurdles that lie ahead of you as you grow old. I don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for these guys. I hope someday soon I can offer a little bit of what i've learned over the years and help some young up and comer rise to greatness. Thanks Larry for all that you do. See you and the rest of the crew in September 2011.
