LINO LAKES – Investigators are hard at work wrangling evidence on a juvenile McDonald's drive-thru employee - not a Hamburglar but an alleged credit card scammer.
Lino Lakes Police say they arrested a juvenile and an adult in connection with the scam that happened at a Wright County McDonald's this summer.
Local police are working with the Wright County Sheriff's Office on the case after one of the suspected stolen card numbers was traced to a purchase at the Apollo Drive Target. Out of the possible 25 to 35 victims, none are Lino Lakes residents thus far, police said.
According to a Wright County Sheriff's Office release, investigators believe credit card numbers were stolen through a drive-thru skimming operation last July and August. Customers handed their credit cards to an employee who swiped the cards through n electronic skimming device to obtain the number “for a larger organization.” Most of the victims are being reported as female.
Police said McDonald's is cooperating with the investigation by providing evidence.
Past users of the Monticello McDonald's drive-thru on 7th Street who think they are victims of credit card fraud should call the Wright County Sheriff's Office at 763-682-7733.
